Appointment of Recording Clerk

Trustees have appointed Paul Parker to be the next Recording Clerk.

Paul is a member of Thaxted Area Meeting. He has been attending Quaker meetings for around 25 years and was accepted into membership over 15 years ago. He will be known to some of you as one of the co-clerks of YM Gathering in York 2009.  During the 1990s Paul was a member of the under-19s Programme Core Team and later was a member of Quaker Life Children & Young People’s Committee for eight years, including three years as co-clerk or clerk. This period of service was a busy time for that committee, seeing through a major review of its work and developing a number of key projects. Paul has also been active in a wide range of area and local meeting activities and service, so he comes to this post with considerable experience of the Society at all levels.

In his working life Paul is a teacher of languages and school leader, currently holding the post of assistant headteacher of a comprehensive school in Hertfordshire. He has shown particular expertise in team building, handling conflict, strategic and policy development and implementation. His leadership skills and experience were highly rated by his referees. We are appointing him because he demonstrated not only highly developed management expertise but also a dynamic and engaging enthusiasm for promoting Quakerism. He has considerable vision for the Society of Friends.

Paul will take up the post on 1 May 2011. With Paul, we will develop an induction process which will be responsive to his needs and the needs of the Yearly Meeting.
