Britain Yearly Meeting Young People's Programme

The Young People’s Programme is a residential event, planned by young people, for young people, that happens at the same time as Britain Yearly Meeting. Past events

The most  recent event for 12 to 15 year olds wasYearly Meeting Gathering  that took place from Saturday 30 July to Saturday 6 August 2011 in Canterbury

As part of YMG there was a Young People’s Programme for 12 to 15 year olds that included time together in large and small groups as well as the opportunity to join YMG for some session sessions.

The Young People’s Programme offered a chance to gather together, to make new friends, see old ones and to build our Quaker community.

The programme explored the Gathering theme and  topics from the Yearly Meeting agenda; therewere lots of other activities giving young people a chance to explore spirituality and discuss important Quaker issues, as well as enjoying fun events for a change of pace.

Worship was an integral part of the programme, including epilogues which are a spiritual and inspiring end to each day.

The young people’s programme was planned by a group of four young people (the arrangements committee) working with staff.

In 2009 we ran two new events for 12 to 15 year olds.

Adventuring included a mixture of outward bound activities and times for reflection. It was a chance for young people to challenge themselves, to have fun and try something new. It gave young Quakers a chance to explore and reflect on their spirituality and how this is part of our daily lives. It also provided a chance for young Friends to gather together in community with other Quakers their age, to build friendships, to learn more about Quakerism, themselves and the relationship between the two

Here’s what participants thought of the event:

We also ran a Quaker Pilgrimage this explored the places where Quakerism started over 350 years ago. It will gave young Quakers a chance to develop their understanding of the roots of Quakerism – both spiritual and geographic and the opportunity to chance to reflect on these roots and their own understanding of contemporary Quaker faith.

Here are a few of their thoughts and reflections on the experience.

We will be running these events again in the future – keep an eye on these pages for more information.
